Hong Kong International Flute Competition

About HKIFC

Co-organized by Hong Kong Flute Association and Hong Kong Flute Academy, the 2nd Hong Kong International Flute Competition (HKIFC) will be held virtually from December 2021 to April 2022. HKIFC provides a rare opportunity for gifted musicians around the world to showcase their musicality and share their musical experiences. To encourage cultural exchange and enhance the accessibility of flute repertoire, our competition will be divided into categories that reflect the age and level of experience of participants. The Ensemble and Amateur categories are added this year. We welcome flute enthusiasts of all ages and levels to join us.

The 1st Hong Kong International Flute Competition was successfully held in 2018 which attracted over 300 top young musicians from Russia, Mainland China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, etc. Winners were offered a chance to perform in Hong Kong City Hall with our renowned jurors, such as Paul Edmund-Davies and Shigenori Kudo.

In light of the latest COVID-19 situation and uncertainties in global business travels, this year’s competition will be hosted as a hybrid event, consisting of 2 rounds of video competitions and the Gala Concert. Both preliminary and final rounds will be held using an online format where participants shall have the opportunity to submit their performance videos to our jury. Given the limitations on travelling and health and safety concerns under COVID-19, winners located in Hong Kong during that time may have a chance to physically perform in the Gala Concert, while overseas winners shall have their performance clips uploaded over multiple social media platforms.
